Concerts, chat shows and more in Award Winning Starverse during IPL 2023

The IPL 2023 season was the biggest yet, on TV and in the metaverse, with records broken all round for viewership and user engagement across these two very different platforms.

​​As part of the launch of the platform during the tournament, Star Sports held live interactive chat shows with life-like avatars of top Star presenters and staged ‘Off the Record’, a series of tournament afterparties featuring Universal Music indie and Bollywood musicians including Paradox and When Chai Met Toast.

The aim was to provide fans with an immersive and interactive experience, blurring the boundaries between sports, technology and entertainment, and bring together content, gaming and social features all on one platform.

For the ‘Off the record’ musical artists, the Lab team unveiled their solution for scalable 3D avatars. These were created using 3D scanning platform Avaturn and animated using markerless mocap platform Move.ai. All the 3D scan and mocap capture was done using only iPhones, producing a professional grade output via a portable and low-cost solution.

Starverse demonstrated the potential of an ever-growing, immersive, and socially driven content experience that is democratised for the masses. By leveraging accessible mobile first, web based technology and deploying low-cost, high-quality content creation tools, we delivered an engaging and scalable Metaverse experience.

The platform received widespread media coverage and garnered positive feedback from fans on social media. One influencer labelled the experience as “visionary efforts which brought dreams to life and created unforgettable memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of IPL fans worldwide.”
